How this site makes money
Homestead Habit is free to read and costs money to run, so it earns in two ways. Both are described in full below, because a site that is vague about this is usually being vague on purpose.
Advertising
The site carries advertising served by no advertising network. There are at most three ad slots on a page, and where they can sit is fixed in the page template rather than decided per article:
- One after the introduction, before the guide begins.
- One after the instructions have finished.
- One at the foot of the page.
There is never an advertisement between the ingredients and the method, or between one step and the next. There is no autoplaying video, there are no pop-ups or interstitials, and Google's automatic ad placement is switched off so that units cannot be inserted into the middle of a guide. The print view has no advertising at all.
Affiliate links
Some guides list the equipment they need, and those links go to Amazon. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. If you buy something through one of those links the price you pay is exactly the same, and a small commission comes to us.
Two things about how that list is put together. The guide itself only ever says what kind of tool is needed — a wide skillet, a sheet pan, a thermometer — and never names a product. A person chooses which specific products appear, and if nothing suitable has been chosen for a category, the box simply does not appear rather than being filled with something approximate.
We do not quote prices, because prices change and quoting them from anywhere other than Amazon's own live data is against the rules of the programme. Check the price on Amazon before you buy anything.
What this does not change
Nothing about how a guide is written depends on what can be sold alongside it. A job needing nothing but a spade is written the same way as one needing a thermometer. No brand pays to appear here, no post is sponsored, and nobody has been given anything in exchange for coverage. If that ever changes, it will say so on the post itself and on this page.
